Description

Making art may be hard, but explaining it to other people can be even harder.

Whatever inspires your work, instinct, emotion, experience, curiosity or maybe you just love love making beautiful things,  the need for a verbal explanation can be frustrating.

But I have a way through for you.

When a potential buyer stumbles across you, yes it’s your art that we hope stops them scrolling or walking past. In the next second, if you can get across why you are relevant to them, and why this moment matters, you have someone to talk to.

First, you need to know the answer for yourself. Once you know that it becomes clear who is likely to care about the same things and where you can find them.

In this practical two-hour workshop, we’ll work through a simple, repeatable process:

What drives you?
Identify the values and ideas that matter most to you. They are likely to be reflected in your work.

Who feels the same way (and has some money)?
If you’ve done avatar work before where you decide what your ideal buyer eats for breakfast, this isn’t it. This is about where to find a supportive audience who are more likely to ‘get’ what you’re about, to value your work, to have the means and who may become a collector, customer or supporter.

How to reach them
How you reach your people depends on what you value the most, and where they hang out. We’ll work that out. With this in place, you might find it works better than “just posting to Instagram”. Over time, it’s an opportunity to streamline your marketing so you spend less time on marketing and more time in the studio.

Then it’s a question of what to say
The final step takes some effort from me and is more of a one-to-one thing, so we’ll arrange a one-to-one Zoom session, where we’ll work together to create a simple textual hook to attract your perfect buyer and encourage them to click. You could use that as your social media profile.

This isn’t a marketing course, but it may help you sell your paintings. Primarily it gives you a way of making better decisions about where to put your time and energy.

And it’s repeatable. Once you’ve found one group of people who connect with your values, you can use the same process to explore another. In love, there’s someone for everyone. It’s the same in art, there’s someone out there who is looking for your art, this process improves your chances.

What you’ll finish with

  • Greater clarity about what drives you and your art
  • A specific audience to explore
  • Practical ideas for finding and reaching them
  • A repeatable approach you can use again
  • A personalised hook developed with you during your follow-up Zoom
  • .. all done with the support of your peers.

You don’t need to be an established artist. Whether you’ve been making art all your life or are just starting out, whether you paint the Last Supper or people’s dogs, if you want your work to reach people who will value and connect with it, this workshop is for you.
